General Rules for Advertising on United Internet Media
We are extremely intent on ensuring the respectability and credibility of our advertising environments on behalf of our users and advertising clients.
Consequently, the following rules regarding content must be observed in the preparation of your advertising media:
1. Advertising of alcohol, tobacco, drugs, weapons, and gambling
Alcohol advertising may not be targeted at persons under 21 years of age. Accordingly, the advertising of alcohol is prohibited except on websites that contain a proper age verification process to ensure that only viewers over the age of 21 will view the advertisement. Advertising for tobacco products, illegal drugs and/or drug paraphernalia, guns and other weapons, and gambling are strictly prohibited in the advertising environments of 1&1 Mail & Media.
2. Advertising media with misleading content
Placement of advertising media with statements/promises that are not true and therefore misleading (i.e."You won" or "You are guaranteed to receive a free gift") is prohibited in our environments.
3. No system-message advertising media
Advertising media must not imitate the appearance of system messages or notifications. In particular, they must not contain system elements such as check boxes, help buttons or close buttons if they do not perform the expected function.
4. Color change effects, intense animation - only to support the communication message
1&1 Mail & Media reserves the right to refuse advertising media that contain fast, excessive color changes or extremely flashy animations just for the sake of increasing the level of attention. Color changes can only be used when they support the CI or the communication message with regards to content.
5. No linking with the WEB.DE, GMX, MAIL.COM and 1&1 brands
Advertising media must not exhibit content-related or graphical linking with the portal brands (i.e. "WEB.DE has selected you...", incorporation of the brand logo) without the consent of 1&1 Mail & Media.
6. Advertising media in WEB.DE, GMX, MAIL.COM and 1&1 layout
Advertising media must not be designed in a WEB.DE, 1&1, MAIL.COM or GMX layout.
7. Advertising media consisting mostly of text
A placement of advertising media consisting mostly of text is only possible if it is clearly marked as an advertisement. In addition, it must be obvious that it is advertising for a specific company through the explicit labeling of links "to... (advertiser)" or a clearly visible integration of the company logo.
8. Advertising for pornography and other adult content or services
The advertising of pornography is prohibited except on websites that contain a proper age verification process to ensure that only viewers over the age of majority can view the advertisement. Like the advertised offers themselves, advertising media for pornography and other adult content or services must comply with all relevant laws and regulations relating to such content and must protect against exposure for children and young persons, even if they are in compliance with general legal regulations. In particular, such ads cannot contain sexually explicit images of children under the age of 18 or individuals who appear to be under the age of 18, or otherwise be in violation of the laws against child pornography. The advertising must not contain any contents with pornography, child pornography, violence or any other offers that endanger children and young persons in their development. Advertising media that adversely affect children and young persons in their development are not permitted or must have their access restricted substantially.
9. Ads directed at children
Advertisements directed at children under the age of 13 are not permitted.
10. No pop-up or expanding ads
Advertisements that generate pop-up ads (including pop-overs and pop-unders) and expanding ads are prohibited.
11. No Phishing, Spyware, etc.
Phishing, information harvesting, and advertisements containing or linking directly or indirectly to a site that contains spyware/malware downloads, whether initiated automatically or manually by the user, or other auto-initiated downloads are strictly prohibited.
12. Compliance with all applicable laws
Without limiting anything else herein, all advertisements must at all times comply with all applicable laws and regulations.
13. Right to review and terminate
1&1 Mail & Media reserves the right to review advertisements and to refuse and/or terminate advertisements in its sole and absolute discretion.
1&1 Mail & Media reserves the right to suspend placement of advertising media that violate regulations or one or this advertising policy. This applies in particular to advertising media that result in extensive user complaints. In this case, 1&1 Mail & Media will immediately notify the client and request that corrections be made to the advertising media.
